What product is involved?

Mr. Coffee Single Cup Brewing System, Model BVMC-KG1.

Why are you recalling this product?

We have received reports that a build-up of steam in the water reservoir can force the brewing chamber to open and expel hot coffee grounds and water, posing a burn hazard.

Where were these products sold?

The brewers were sold in the United States and Canada at retailers such as Wal-Mart, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond and online.

How many brewers are part of this recall?

Approximately 520 thousand Mr. Coffee Single Serve Brewing System, Model BVMC-KG1 brewers sold in the U.S., and approximately 80,700 KG1 brewers sold in Canada, are included in this recall.

Can I test the product on my own?

When did this become an issue?

The issue came to our attention through reports of incidents.

How can I tell if my product is affected by the recall?

Only Mr. Coffee Single Serve brewer models that begin with BVMC-KG1 are included. To find the model number of your brewer, please look on the rating label on the bottom. Detailed instructions, including photos on how to identify the model number of your brewer can be found at www.mrcoffeerecall.com. Below is a list of the model numbers included:

How do I tell if my brewer isn’t involved in the recall?

Your model is not involved in the recall if the model number DOES NOT contain the characters KG1.

What do I do if I have a recalled brewer?

Please confirm your eligibility in the recall by visiting us at www.mrcoffeerecall.com or by calling 800-993-8609 for instructions. Eligible consumers will receive a recall kit containing a pre-paid label which will facilitate the return of a recall form and the cord from the appliance. Once the appropriate contents have been received, a replacement brewer will be sent out.

Once I have sent back in my kit with the appropriate contents, how long will it be before I will receive my replacement?

2-3 weeks.

What needs to be returned to JCS?

The completed form and the cord (including the plug) of your Mr. Coffee Single Cup Brewer, Model BVMC-KG1 brewer. You can find UPS dropoff locations by clicking here.

For Canadian consumers, please write the following information on the outside of your label for UPS processing: “Cut Power Cord Plug. Value - $1.00”.

How do I know that the replacement model won’t do the same exact thing?

We understand your concern. However, the replacement model, the Mr. Coffee Single Serve Brewer Model BVMC-KG2, is a different unit with a different design, and has been tested to ensure that you will not experience the same issue. However, you should always read and follow instructions to ensure proper operation of your product.
